Knapp Architects led the team that prepared the Hawthorns Historic Structures Assessment for MROSD to describe the history and conditions of this typical country estate; identify opportunities and constraints for rehabilitation and development; and prepare documents for the District to solicit development partners. The multi-disciplinary team of expert consultants included Architecture+History as architectural historian, Denise Bradley landscape historian, PGAdesign Landscape Architects, Structural Design Engineers now DCI Engineers, Salas O’Brien MEP Engineers, Treadwell & Rollo Geotechnical Engineers, NV5 Civil Engineers, and cost estimation by Hattin Construction Management. The team prepared a Historic Resource Study, a Structures Conditions Assessment, and supporting information and diagrams for a Feasibility Study. The property was found to be significant as a San Francisco Peninsula rural estate and recommendations were tailored to focus on the site’s primary features to retain the property’s historic character in the case of future reuse.
