The Garage Structure

The Lovelace property is a historic estate within a California Regionalist Garden of the Post-Modern Era. The garden was landscaped in 1972 by Isabelle Greene, granddaughter of Henry Mather Greene of the illustrious architectural firm of Greene and Greene. Lillian Lovelace commissioned documentation of Greene’s work as a Historic American Landscape Survey (HALS) effort headed by PGAdesign and photographed by Stephen Schäfer. While the original house was well documented, Knapp Architects documented a garage and garden tea house with field sketches and measurements of the plan and elevations, with final documents drafted in AutoCAD. The compiled landscape and architectural documents were submitted to the Library of Congress and dually documented in Schäfer’s tribute book, Documentation of the Lovelace Garden Designed by Isabelle Greene.
