California Memorial Stadium was designed by campus architect John Galen Howard and constructed in 1923. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is a behemoth of a historic structure with a total square of 400,000 square feet. The project included exterior restoration, a new press box addition, safety and seismic upgrades and bowl seating reconfiguration, as well as restroom and facility improvements. We consulted on the design and retention of parts of the original structure to ensure maintenance of historical character. For the façade restoration, we performed a conditions survey of concrete deterioration, prepared construction documents, and were closely involved in construction to observe and make recommendations for exterior concrete crack and spall repairs and the use of a specialized coating for a compatible and consistent finish.
