Leigh Schoberth

Knapp Architects is pleased to announce Leigh Schoberth has joined our firm. Ms. Schoberth has experience in historic preservation, conservation, architectural history, architecture, and adaptive reuse. Prior to working at Knapp Architects, she worked as an architectural historian in the Midwest conducting architectural history surveys for compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, NEPA, and Section 4(f) of the National Transportation Act. Her professional experience includes documentation of historic resources, writing architectural descriptions, evaluations of integrity and NRHP eligibility, and archival and historic property research.

Having grown up in Bay City, Michigan she witnessed the power of a town’s dedication to preservation. Inspired by this early exposure, she began her undergraduate studies at Illinois Institute of Technology studying architecture, later transferring to the University of Michigan to complete her degree in art history. Finally she brought architecture and history together, completing her Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation at Clemson University where she co-authored the Historic Preservation and Buildings Chapter of the Sustainability Plan for the College of Charleston, South Carolina and developed reuse alternatives for abandoned historic theaters in Detroit through her thesis, Detroit’s Historic Theaters: A Study of Significance and Reuse.

At Knapp Architects she has found her niche, with a position that joins her passion for historic preservation and the built environment in an area with countless architectural treasures. Through this position she has continued to hone her skills in architectural documentation, condition assessments, property research and evaluation of historic resources.
