Federal Office Building

50 United Nations Plaza, San Francisco, California

Built in 1936, the Federal Building at United Nations Plaza is a major contributor to the San Francisco Civic Center Historic District, a National Historic Landmark. The new project for the Federal Building includes renovation of the interior office spaces and rehabilitation of historic corridors, entryways, and secondary spaces. The project goal is to integrate contemporary spaces within historic spaces using new technology to achieve LEED Gold. Our role as preservation architects under HKS Architects, the architect-of-record, includes historical input on the impact of the new design, preparation of drawings and specifications for specific historical issues, and construction administration.
